Melisa (Lisa) D. Jones-Smith, CFP, CRPS, AAMS

 Lisa Jones-Smith is a very unique business owner in her field. She not only knows church and nonprofit accounting and consulting from hands-on working directly with more than thirty-five churches in her time, but she also knows church and nonprofit organizations from God assigning her the tremendous task of being married to a long service servant of God, Dr. Rev. William Smith, Pastor of Israel Missionary Baptist Church, Inc. Rev. Dr. William Smith has served as a minister in the ministry of God for over fifty years and has served as the Senior Pastor of Israel Missionary Baptist Church for over forty-five years. Pastor Smith has more than forty ministers and pastors that serve underneath his ministry.

Through Mrs. Jones-Smith day to day relationship working with her own church ministries and nonprofits, she has presonal experience and knowledge, which makes her more than qualified to understand and know the needs of other churches and nonprofit organizations. In addition, Mrs. Jones-Smith knows how to resolve issues and needs through God’s first hand experiences, trials, errors and accomplishments.

Mrs. Jones-Smith has been a part of Christ and His Church all her life. Saved at age seven, she started her journey with Christ at her great-great grandparents, great-grandparents, and grandparents’ church, which most of the members are family of Mrs. Jones-Smith. The wonderful loving church, full of God’s spirit; is known as the Summerhill A.M.E. Church in Rome, Georgia.

Through years of growth in Christ and understanding God’s word, at age thirteen, Mrs. Jones-Smith moved her church membership to the Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Gordon Wells, Pastor of New Life of St. John Baptist Church. From there Mrs. Jones-Smith moved into her adult life and moved her membership at the age of twenty-three to LoveJoy Baptist Church where she remained an active member to God directed and willed her live to her now husband, Rev. Dr. William Smith.

God’s journey of Mrs. Jones-Smith life has lead her to be taught and fed by the great Dr. Rev. William Smith, Pastor of the awesome spirit lead house of God, Israel Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. At Israel Missionary Baptist Church, Mrs. Jones-Smith serves as an active First Lady evolved with the youth, Allen Hill Ministry, Women of Israel Ministry, Minister Wives & Widows Ministry, Beautification Ministry, Church Anniversary Ministry, January Birth Month Ministry and many times helping with the Kitchen Ministry.

Then from a business and accountant perspective, Mrs. Jones-Smith career working with churches and nonprofits began upon Mrs. Jones-Smith starting her own company, D & L Business Services, LLC in August 1999. The company is named after her and her son Douglas, who encouraged her early in 1999 to stop working for the accounting firm Mrs. Jones-Smith was employed. Before Mrs. Jones-Smith established D & L, Douglas and her talked daily about her desire to help churches and nonprofits get the accounting and financing help they needed. Mrs. Jones-Smith had determined and investigated from the company she was employed and other accounting firms that they were not focused on helping churches and nonprofit. Most had little or no desire to service churches and non-profits.

Mrs. Jones-Smith also had prior experience working in the banking industry in the loan and lending field, which gave her a leap above many in knowing what lending institutions are looking for and require in loan procurement.

With Mrs. Jones-Smith degree in accounting and business, over ten years experience in accounting, taxation, and lending combined, she started her own firm helping all of God’s people, not just some. As God persisted to direct her path, God continued to surplus Mrs. Jones-Smith training, study, and knowledge of church and nonprofit accounting and consulting; at the same time, growing her client territory by leaps and bounds in the church and nonprofit field. 

Before Mrs. Jones-Smith knew it, her for-profit business had taken a back seat and her church and non-profit business had taken over. Mrs. Jones-Smith has helped start more than five successful and growing churches and nonprofit organizations, helped grow and expand over fifty active churches and nonprofits, process loans, lines of credits, refinances, debt consolidations, renovation projects, capital campaigns, structural setups, grants, fundraising, board development  and much more of hundred plus.

Mrs. Jones-Smith serves as an active member of the American Society of Women Accountants(ASWA), National Society of Accountants(ASA), American Grant Writers Association(AGWA), Association of Fund Raising Professionals(AFP), National Association of Tax Professionals(NATP) and QuickBooks Pro Advisor Board.

Not only does Mrs. Jones-Smith spend over fifty hours a year in continuing education training workshops and seminars, she also teaches many seminars each year herself on subjects such as: Church and Nonprofit Setup - Requirements and Laws, Tax Preparation for Income Tax Filing, Budgeting, Loan Procurement for Churches, Nonprofits, and For-profits, Fundraising, Pastoral Tax Status in the Church with the IRS and Compensation Packages and much more.
